YOUNGTOWN Website

Known as America's first retirement community, Youngtown was established in 1954. Youngtown was incorporated in 1960, a short six years after they were founded, and were the first incorporated retirement community. They also had the first chapter of the AARP. The history of town is viewable in the government district nestled in a rustic log cabin and open to all residents and tourists.

Youngtown was established on a dairy ranch bought be developer Ben Schleifer, who pioneered the concept of retirement living with age restrictions. In 1998, the age restriction was lifted, making Youngtown available to all ages. Youngtown, which has no town property tax or school taxes, still provides a tranquil, small-town lifestyle, with a population of just over 3,000.

Youngtown offers a broad range of community activites including a clubhouse, five parks, a cactus garden and lake. For those with a wide variety of interests, clubs and organizations abound. The city's Maricopa Lake serves as a popular gathering place for picnicking, fishing and social functions.
