Tucson has been around almost as long as Arizona has been an official territory, they even held the capital seat betweem 1867 and 1889. In 1880, the Southern Pacific Railroad moved into Tucson and the population reached 8,000, it has continued to move up steadily since then, in 1950 it was 120,000. Ten years later the population had doubled, and now it tops over 400,000. Tucson is the 33rd largest state in the United States.

Federal, state and local government employ more than 60,000 people in the Tucson area. Though Tourism is a major part of Tucson's economic growth, bringing in over two billon dollars annually, other major sectors include technology, manufacturing, construction, and agriculture. Major employers include Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Pima County, TMC Healthcare, and the Tucson Unified School District.

Tuscon Botanical Gardens is located in the heart of Tucson. A visit will show you at least 15 specialty gardens, including a Mexican-American Garden, Herb Gardens, and more. Kitt Peak is home to twenty-two telescopes representing dozens of astronomical research and located high above the Sonoran Desert. For residents and tourists looking for a more interesting, educational approach, Tucson has many museums, including, the Tucson Children's Museum, and the Wildlife Museum. The Tucson Museum of Art and Historic Block maintains a permanent collection of more than 6,000 pieces of art, and the Historic Block features five distinctive homes built between 1850 and 1907. Tucson is also home to Arizona's Opera.

There is plenty to do in Tucson from the outdoor activities available at the many nearby lakes and mountains, to the Tucson Art and Historic Block. Excellent shopping and dining awaits anyone willing to explore the depths of the city.
