SURPRISE Website
According to research from the Department of Economic Security, Surprise is the fastest-growing city in Arizona. Surprise was founded in 1929 and incorporated in 1960. The city's name came from Surprise, Nebraska's hometown of the city's founder, Homer C. Ludden. The small farming village now has grown to include urban and commercial developments, ranches and industrial parks. And more than 54,000 new residential homes are planned for construction during the next 10 years.
The city lies in the shadow of Arizona's largest mountain preserve, White Tanks Regional Park. There is a new multipurpose training facility for Major League Baseball's Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals.
Surprise is home to the West Valley Art Museum, which features an extensive collection of fine art and visiting exhibits from around the world.
