Quartzsite was established in 1867 on a privately built structure constructed in 1856 by Charles Tyson for protection against Indian raids. It was named because of the ability to find Quartz in the area, it received its spelling due to an error. Quartzsite is located in La Paz County and became incorporated in 1989. Nestled one of the most scenic areas a Mohave Desert resides in Quartzsite, with Kofa and the Colorado River just moments away.

The historic and scenic areas abound when visiting Quartzsite, to name a few, Crystal Hill, Tyson Tanks, and the Kofa Mountains are all beautiful in there own way. Palm Canyon is home to Arizona's only native palms.

The Colorado river offers a variety of water sports, everything from fishing, camping, and boating are available. Other attractions include the town park, which is 80-acres, Celia's Botanical Gardens, numerous recreation centers, and plenty of community service buildings and opportunities.
