Phoenix neighborhoods

Phoenix is a very diverse city. There are tons of cities, communities and neighborhoods. Phoenix, the sixth-largest city in the nation, is a major tourist destination as well as the business center of Arizona. The city is filled with diversity, culture, sports, outdoor recreation, premier shopping and dining, and some of the most luxurious and renowned resorts in the world.

With large tracts of open space within its city limits, Phoenix provides a variety of recreational opportunities from hiking and mountain biking to golf and water sports. At 16,500 acres, South Mountain Park is the largest municipal park in the world while Squaw Peak Park enjoys thousands of visitors who hike, bike and ride horses on its trails every year.

Phoenix is proud of its Native American and pioneer history. The best-known museum is the Heard Museum, which houses one of the world's finest collections of Native American art and artifacts. Preserving the ruins of an ancient Hohokam community, Pueblo Grande Museum gives a glimpse of what a large prehistoric settlement looked like.

The city's performance venues include the beautifully restored Orpheum Theatre, the Herberger Theater Center, and Phoenix Symphony Hall, home to the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra and the Arizona Opera. Three major professional sports teams call Phoenix home (the NFL's Arizona Cardinals play in Tempe). The World Champion MLB Arizona Diamondbacks play in Bank One Ballpark, an air-conditioned stadium with a retractable roof and a pool in center field. A few blocks away, the NBA Phoenix Suns and the NHL Phoenix Coyotes play in America West Arena. The arena also hosts the WNBA Phoenix Mercury and the Arena Football League Arizona Rattlers.

Phoenix offers more than 51,000 hotel rooms to visitors from all over the world. One of the more exclusive resorts is the Arizona Biltmore, built in 1929 by a disciple of Frank Lloyd Wright. With its own golf course and a $3.5 million spa, this "Jewel of the Desert" is proud of its reputation for opulence.

Shoppers can choose from a variety of destinations, including the Arizona Center and Biltmore Fashion Park. Menus in Phoenix cover the entire range of cuisines. Concentrations of elegant restaurants are spread along the Camelback Corridor, while more casual dining establishments are just a stone's throw away.
