Mesa, Arizona. Hohokam Indians were among the first inhabitants of Mesa, dating to about 2,000 years ago. Mormon settlers came from Utah to establish the settlement of Lehi, just north of present-day Mesa. A replica of Fort Utah that was built by the settlers in July of 1877 now stands in front of the Mesa Historical Museum. With a population of almost 400,000, Mesa is Arizona's third-largest city. Mesa Community College is the largest school in the Maricopa Community College District with academic programs offered in more than 40 different areas to more than 20,000 students. Mesa residents and tourists are never short of something to do. There are plenty of attractions ranging from casinos to art galleries. For the outdoor lover there are many scenic views and breath taking Arizona sunsets, there is also Golfland for the golf enthusiasts. The Phoenix Zoo isn't too far away, nor is the Desert Botanical Garden, or the Out of Africa Wildlife Park. Mesa is also home to the Hohokam Stadium, where the Chicago Cubs play, the Mesa Amphitheatre, and the Mesa Symphony. There are many cultural events ranging from youth organizations to adult. There is never a dull moment in Mesa.
