People who come to Guadalupe may think they've suddenly been transported to Mexico. The town is named for the Virgin of Guadalupe, the patron saint of Mexico. The town's population is mostly Hispanic, bringing with it tasty Mexican restaurants, markets selling brightly colored wares and fresh fruit and vegetables at roadside stands. Guadalupe is a town that celebrates it's rich heritage with an annual Easter celebration of the Pascua Yaqui people who make up a portion of the population. It takes place in a plaza at the center of town that is bordered by Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Yaqui Temple. Guadalupe is a close-knit town where families stay for generations. They gather at places such as a $2M multipurpose facility that houses a Boys & Girls Club and a branch of South Mountain Community College. The town's new Guadalupe Branch Library features vaulted ceilings, murals, a Spanish- language computer and materials for Native Americans.
