The Town of Clarkdale is situated in the Verde Valley, located in
the North Central part of Arizona. The Town was founded in 1912 and
was a planned community in the State of Arizona. Clarkdale was a
company town, owned by the United Verde Copper Company and provided
housing and services for its employees who worked in the nearby
smelter. Mining operations were discontinued in 1953 and Clarkdale
was incorporated in 1957.
While Clarkdale was started as a mining town, today the area is
rich in the retail and service industries, while still retaining
some of
their agricultural roots. Clarkdale's location brings together the
scenic, historic, and recreational beauties of the Verde Valley.
With Historic Main Town Clarkdale preserving the model town look and
feel. The historic district offers many arts and accents of the
historic days past.
Clarkdale is also home to Sycamore Canyon, a 26 mile canyon and
wilderness area perfect for backpacking, sightseeing, and short
walks. Some other delights of residents and tourists are the
Tuzigoot National Monument, which dates back to 1000 A.D., and the
Dead Horse Ranch State Park.
