Carefree dates back only a few decades. Founded in the 1950's, the town is one of the earliest planned communities in Arizona. Carefree boasts having the third largest sundial in the Western Hemisphere. Carefree has already gained a reputation for its beauty which is unsurpassed with unique rock outcroppings and boulders visible for miles.

Lots are big, allowing for expansive housing, yet the spacious area allows for many of the indigenous vegetation, and desert plants to remain. In the summer, cool down with an evening of music under the clear skies. Carefree, and nearby Cave Creek offer, "Music by Moonlight" concert series. Or stop by the Desert Foothills Community Theatre and catch the latest show. The Foothills Community Foundation works to preserve the natural habitat Carefree offers, and allows for many physical activities which include hiking, biking, trail walking, and an array of other fun things for every resident to enjoy.
