Black Canyon City has been known by several names in the past, including Goddard, Canon, Black Canyon. It was a stage stop on the Phoenix to Prescott line and a Military stopover while traveling to Fort Whipple and Fort Verde during Territorial days. In the 1920's, electricity was brought to Black Canyon City for the Kay Copper Mine, while Rock Springs Store supplied groceries and other goods to the mine and it's workers sometime around that period. The Kay Mine ceased operation in 1929. By the 1960's,land development and highway construction replaced most of the agricultural areas. Located in Central Arizona, Black Canyon City is in Yavapai County. Situated near the Bradshaw Mountains, it is everything you could want in small town living. Black Canyon City’s population is 4,000. Black Canyon City has smog-free, sunny weather throughout the year. The warm desert climate has a winter temperature at the low of 40 degrees and a summer high temperature of 103 degrees. The town usually receives a bit more rainfall than Phoenix is used to, and even an occasional snow storm. The community offers opportunities
for new businesses and a great place for winter tourists to use as a
refuge. There are all the comforts and accommodations of any other
town, including restaurants, various shops, and businesses to serve
locals as well as guests. Sunset Point Scenic Rest Area is located
just north of Black Canyon City on top of the rim.. It has
spectacular views of the Bradshaw Mountains. The best time to
make your stop is just as the sun is setting. The colors that bounce
