Bagdad is nestled in the hills of the Aquarius Mountains, in west central Yavapai County, one of the four original counties of Arizona. Bagdad was named for the mining claim discovered in 1882 with history closely tied to the copper responsible for its establishment. Bagdad's mine is one of the state's smaller open pit mines, with a completed expansion project. The Cyprus Bagdad copper mine employs 500 people, the school system is responsible for another 80 employees, showing that were economics are concerned the chief activities are mining and education.
