HistoryLa Paz County was formed on January 1, 1983, when residents of Yuma County voted to split the county into two sections. Residents of the area, then known as "Northern Yuma County" were disillusioned with the drive time to Yuma for official business and the quality of services they felt they were receiving from Yuma County. Over the past 15 years, tourism and agriculture have become the leaders in the county’s economy. Several communities lie within La Paz’s borders. The incorporated towns of Parker and Quartzsite are the main population centers, as well as the main trading areas for residents, businesses and visitors. Bordered on the west by the Colorado River, the north by the River, the east by the Rawhide, Mountains Ranges, and on the south by the National Wildlife Refuge the Harquahala Mountain Range and the Eagletail Mountain Wilderness, the county boasts 30 square miles of water The county continues to be a draw for several industries that are looking for room to build or to expand existing companies. |
